Chicago Ald. Rey Colon (35th Ward) discusses the city’s new parking meter deal, increasing fines for drivers and bikers, and what residents can do to address problems with vacant homes in their neighborhoods.

On voting against the parking meter deal
“parking meters were always meant to be for parking regulation, not for revenue generation… I think we took the mission for having parking meters into a whole different direction”

On increasing fines for cyclists
“as we start to segregate the traffic of cyclists and motorists i think we are going to see more pressure on cyclists to obey the rules of the road- right now there isn’t a lot of enforcement”

On dealing with vacant houses
