IT Support Technician

Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV) is seeking a full-time Broadcast IT Specialist on a confidential and at-will basis to maintain all production/distribution areas and systems by troubleshooting, isolating, and repairing failures with studio hardware and software-based video production equipment, cameras and auxiliary hardware. Additionally, maintain networking and computer functionality across the organization. Also, configure, test and maintain critical access for production, administrative & public file storage, and network monitoring systems, electrical and routing functions of all production and control systems, and terminal modifications. Read, understand, create and interpret technical/electrical/electronic schematics, flow charts, and diagrams. Coordinate repairs with outside repair service providers in accordance with departmental standards. Interface with external IT consulting to troubleshoot and solve IT issues and be the backup to the Chief Engineer/IT leader.

CAN TV operates from a modern multi-use community media facility located at 1309 S. Wood St. in the Illinois Medical District.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Respond to technical service ticket requests from staff users, provide technical support and excellent customer service with a good attitude and service orientation
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair problems with hardware and software-based production systems, both video and client/server
  • Maintain functionality and availability of all equipment in all studios, control rooms, and all other components used for production in the facility, including lenses, viewfinders, pedestals, lighting instruments, tripods, intercoms, microphones, Switches, network components, ports, protocols, computers, and access systems.
  • Upgrade Production Systems by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements
  • Protect organization’s value and staff privacy by keeping sensitive information confidential
  • Work Closely with the IT Support Specialist to configure, reset, troubleshoot switches, servers and network –based control systems for Production IT and critical signaling throughout the facility
  • May be required to provide on-site technical assistance to end users beyond regular business hours during an emergency or in support of special business projects and initiatives
  • Update job knowledge and technical proficiency
  • Work with vendors to affect troubleshooting resolutions
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule. The work week typically is Saturday-Friday. Must be able to work early mornings, evenings and weekend hours
  • Ability to lift average-weight objects up to 40 pounds and/or standing and/or walking an average of four (4) hours per day.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • 2 years experience with Windows10/Apple MacOS10 incl Catalina, computer hardware, periph-erals, and networks,
  • 2 years hands on experience configuring Newtek Tricasters, NDI/SDI/SERIAL/IP/DANTE/OMNEO/DMX protocols
  • Excellent computer, writing, and administrative skills, must be able to read and create schematic wiring diagrams and documentation.
  • Professional demeanor, strong interpersonal, highly-organized team player
  • Detailed oriented and ability to meet deadlines
